02 Dec 3 Things to Consider Before Starting a Project: Lifestyle Edition

What should you think about before you start a kitchen renovation project? Here are some main points to consider:

floform_icons_blog_sm1. What do you need / want to change? What absolutely needs to be replaced, and what is your budget? How much are you willing to do in your kitchen? Can you set aside the time and money to do a complete renovation of the entire room, or does the room just need a freshen-up? Changing cabinet handles or painting the cupboards can make a big difference to a kitchen that is still in fine working condition, but if the layout is a problem or you want to alter the theme of the kitchen entirely, then it’s going to be a much bigger project.

2. How much cooking do you do? What do you use your kitchen for? What would you like the main function of your kitchen to be for (cooking, socializing, eating, etc.)? This will help you decide what countertop, lighting arrangement, and furniture layout is going to be right for you and your family.

3. Where do you see your life in the next few years? Kitchen renovations aren’t something you’ll be doing every year for the rest of your life! Think about where you’ll be and what you’ll be doing two years from now, five years from now, eight years from now. Will you be just starting a family in a couple years? Or will your kids be all grown up and moving out of the house within the next decade? Are you planning on living in this house for the rest of your life or is there a good chance you will be moving to another city in three years?

Budgeting isn’t the only thing to think about when you’re starting a kitchen renovation project! Really think about how your kitchen reflects your lifestyle, and how you can change the kitchen in your home to more accurately work for you and your family to get the most out of this special room in your house.

Marie, your kitchen looks fantastic! Can’t wait to see the counters you chose and everything put together. Question, did you choose maple or MDF painted doors? For practical reasons MDF sounds like a better choice, but I like the more traditional look of maple painted doors because the inside corners on the shaker profile are more square (mdf look rounded). What do you think is a better choice?

A kitchen remodel increases the value of a home. When it comes to upgrading the value of a home, a thoughtful kitchen remodeling project will give more happiness than anything else. Everyone wants to have a dream home and it is not possible without a proper and well designed kitchen. I also think a beautiful kitchen remodel can save money by making you want to cook in the kitchen. Thanks for sharing.
